Town of Arkwright willing to entertain staff additions

ARKWRIGHT — As the Town of Arkwright began to evaluate ways to be more fiscally responsible with its building projects, including the ongoing Highway Department building project and its upcoming refurbishment of the existing Town Hall, Supervisor Brian McAvoy has given thought to doing more of the improvements in-house.

To that point, Highway Superintendent Lisa Waldron noted an aging Highway Department staff, with multiple members of the crew nearing retirement.

Before that problem presents itself, McAvoy and Waldron have had their sights set on a proactive approach to add to the Town workforce.

An additional Highway Department worker could potentially be added to the Arkwright staff. Waldron is seeking an enthusiastic, responsible worker with a desire to learn the duties of the Highway Department. Additional responsibilities discussed in recent conversations included the ability to assist with some of the smaller items on the list of refurbishment of the existing Town Hall.

McAvoy and Waldron agree that while the Town is not desperate to fill the position it would be creating, if the right individual expresses an interest to the Town, the Board will entertain the idea. A potential hire will be brought to the Board if a qualified candidate shows interest and Waldron is satisfied with the candidate’s progression through the interview process.

Also of note, the Town is planning to hold a “Dumpster Day” trash disposal event on Sept. 7 for Town residents. More details will be available closer to the event.

Starting at $2.99/week.
