Dunkirk High 1989 scholarship awarded

DHS 2024 graduate Trestin Briggs recently received the Dunkirk High School Class of 1989 Memorial Scholarship Award presented by Dr. Jennifer Foley, DHS class of 1989 alumni.

Trestin Briggs, son of Leslie Briggs and Derrick Casey of Dunkirk, was recently awarded the Dunkirk High School Class of 1989 Memorial Scholarship.

The award is managed by the Northern Chautauqua Community Foundation and coordinated by 1989 classmates Jennifer Ellman and Matthew Woelfle.

The annual award, valued at $1,400, is in honor of DHS Class of 1989 deceased classmates Paula Kuschel, Jennifer Styborski, Jody Wdowiasz, Mike Koch, Robert Pierc]e, James Kulpa, Susan Butts, Elizabeth Barnes, Tony Quiles, Susan Stoyle (Gorka), Scott Roesler, Todd Iskra, Paul Szach, Joseph Pieszak, John Gizowski, Tammy Crawford, Corey Marshall, Jodie Wickham (Santiago), David Lukasik, Tom Wickham, Gloria Fred, Blanca Nieves, Conley Coleman, Gilberto Rosas and James Jaffray.

Briggs plans to pursue a career in occupational therapy at SUNY Brockport University.

This honor roll student was Student of the Month in 11th grade and was also inducted into the National Honor Society.

He was a member of the DHS varsity football being Captain his senior year along with participating in the varsity track, cross country and swim teams.

His volunteer associations include community clean ups and assisting with Unified Basketball and Unified Bowling. He currently works as a cook at Cabana Sam’s in Silver Creek.
