Emergency spending plan sought by Espersen
Fredonia looks set to implement an emergency spending plan.
Trustees were agreeable to the suggestion made by Trustee Jon Espersen at a workshop last week.
“In light of the year end treasurer’s report, I think we need to talk to (Treasurer) Erlyssa (LeBeau) and perhaps institute an emergency sounding plan until we get our finances under control because it seems like now they may not be,” Espersen said.
LeBeau reported earlier in the month that Fredonia closed the 2023-24 fiscal year with its general fund $888,275 in the red.
Espersen said only two departments need approval from LeBeau to spend money. He said that should be a requirement for all departments.
LeBeau has been working on tightened spending procedures and Espersen said her draft plan would require the treasurer to approve expenditures over $500. He suggested that the treasurer approve all expenditures, of any amount.
The workshop moved on and there was no further discussion of the matter.
