HANOVER — When the Town of Hanover renovated Bicentennial Park with a new pavilion and indoor facilities, Supervisor Lou Pelletter already had his eyes on Phase II of the project.

Pelletter and Town Clerk Elizabeth VanCheri both wanted a new playground to be installed so that children in the Town could play within sight of their families enjoying the new pavilion for events and parties. Now, that vision is weeks away from coming to life.

The Town of Hanover has purchased equipment for a new playground to be installed at Bicentennial Park. American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA) funds will be utilized for the project, including installation, at a total cost of $54,312.

Jeffrey Associates, a playground equipment company based in Pennsylvania, will be providing the equipment from Playworld in the coming weeks. The Village of Brocton approved a bid from the same company of just over $35,000 to replace the damaged equipment at its playground at Ryckman Park.

The playground will be constructed and installed this summer. Pelletter hopes it will be done by the end of the month.

Pelletter is still waiting for a quote on a new canopy over the front and extension of the existing structure to expand the seating area for the new pavilion. He hopes to utilize ARPA funds for that, as well. The Town has also approved tree removal in the area for the playground.

The Town is hoping for even more substantial improvements to the Forestville area, as Imagine Forestville was approved to apply for a grant to reimagine Main Street. Designs have been discussed with Imagine Forestville in recent months. The Town’s approval for Imagine Forestville to proceed with seeking grant funding was at no cost to the Town.

The Town has also recently approved several lifeguards for the summer at a rate of $19 per hour, including Carly Barrett, Alex Galfo and Alexander Karnes. Bonnie Pilski was also recently appointed as Permanent Cleaner for the Town Hall and facilities at a rate of $15.96 per hour. James Brauer was also appointed as a seasonal employee at the Hanover Boat Launch at an hourly rate of $16.25.

The Town also recently accepted the resignation of Motor Equipment Operator Kyle Barthel of the Highway Department. Barthel was recently named the Director of Facilities at the Forestville Central School District.

Starting at $2.99/week.
