ARKWRIGHT — In times of need, strong communities come together. Arkwright saw that firsthand last month.

Arkwright Highway Superintendent Lisa Waldron and Town Supervisor Brian McAvoy gave thanks to the Town’s good neighbors for their efforts to assist the Town during and after the recent tornado that struck Arkwright on July 10.

The Town received aid from a long list of entities on the day of the event, including Cherry Creek, Ellington, Sinclairville, Gerry, along with fire departments in Sheridan and Forestville. In the days that followed, cleanup efforts were also aided by Villenova, Cassadaga and the Town of Westfield. Chautauqua County representatives also provided assistance.

“All of those municipalities reached out to us and offered their help,” McAvoy said. “… We did have a lot of help that we’re thankful for.

County Executive PJ Wendel said that with how much damage was sustained in the area, he was “very surprised to see there weren’t any more significant injuries” than what was reported. Wendel added, “By the grace of God, we survived this. I think a few chickens may have perished, but other than that, we came out unscathed.”
