Timeline for $51M project proposed
As the Fredonia Central School District works through the environmental review process pertaining to its planned $51 million capital project proposal this winter, the District has been evaluating potential fits for the Construction Manager to oversee whatever work could be approved.
Bill Mahoney, Co-Founder and Vice President of Buffalo Construction Consultants, attended a recent Board of Education meeting to introduce himself to the Board and describe the process if his company were to be selected. Fredonia utilized Buffalo Construction Consultants for its last notable capital project in 2017-18.
“If we are fortunate to be able to work with you again, that’s something that would obviously resonate with us,” Mahoney said.
Mahoney, a SUNY Fredonia graduate, said that Fredonia holds a special place in his heart because of his positive experience in college.
Buffalo Construction Consultants employs approximately 80 professionals across all areas of construction. The firm currently works with 15 school districts, including Silver Creek, North Collins, and several schools in the Buffalo area. In total, Mahoney estimated the work totals approximately $500 million.
Mahoney explained how his company would work with the building leaders to ensure the work can be done efficiently, on time and on budget, including working with the District’s architects, Young and Wright, and the District’s business office to ensure the District receives the appropriate State aid for the project.
“We’ll make sure that, as a whole, you’re maximizing your State aid for each of your individual buildings,” Mahoney said.
Business Administrator John Forbes said of Buffalo Construction Consultants, “I would highly recommend moving forward with them, if the Board so chooses.”
Fredonia Superintendent Dr. Brad Zilliox said the District is “forecasting and anticipating” moving forward in October to officially propose the project for a Dec. 12 vote. The Board of Education plans to change the date of its regular meeting on Oct. 22 to Thursday, Oct. 17 to better accommodate for the capital project proposal timeline.
