SILVER CREEK — From a monitor set up on a table near the wall to several guests in the audience, a recent Village of Silver Creek Board meeting was more full than usual.

Representatives from the New York State Department of Transportation were in attendance to discuss a project in the village, the town of Hanover and the town of Sheridan that includes portions of Route 20 and Route 5.

The DOT project, classified as project number 5112.01, is centered around pavement rehabilitation, sign installation, curb ramps, and drainage repairs. The project will bring 90 ramps throughout the village up to date with ADA compliance.

A major area of focus in the project is the Main Street and Central Avenue intersection in Silver Creek. A curb ramp at the intersection of Central Avenue and Howard Street at its southwest corner is also set to be installed.

The project is focused on accommodating pedestrians to provide a more walkable community. For the roads themselves, Brian Dankert, project manager, said the new pavement surface could last 10-15 years.

Another notable aspect to the project is two small culvert replacements and the rehabilitation of a third culvert. The impacted areas of the project include Route 952H and Route 39.

“These culvert replacements, there won’t be any detour. It will be on-site phased construction so there will be no impact to the traveling public,” Dankert said.

The project is set to be approved this fall, with completion of the final design on track for this upcoming spring. Bid opening is targeted for summer of 2025, with construction expected to be completed by fall of 2026.

Also of note in the Village, the next Mobile Food Pantry event, sponsored by the Silver Creek Food Pantry, the Village of Silver Creek, and Feedmore WNY, will be on Tuesday from 11 a.m. until 12:30 p.m. at the village municipal parking lot at 172 Central Ave. in Silver Creek. The Village is seeking volunteers to assist with the distribution of food, especially with the number of volunteers dropping once school began.

Trick-or-Treat hours in the village will be from 5 p.m. until 8 p.m. on Halloween, Thursday, Oct. 31. That evening, the Silver Creek Kiwanis Club will hold its annual Trunk-or-Treat event, beginning with a parade at 5:30 p.m., from the Village Hall to the Village Square. The village also authorized Lou Pelletter, the village historian and Hanover town supervisor, to welcome trick-or-treaters in the Dining Car in the municipal parking lot during trick-or-treat hours.

The next meeting of the Silver Creek Village Board is Monday at 7 p.m. at the Village Hall.

Starting at $3.50/week.
