Dunkirk police urge residents to stay off roads
Due to worsening road conditions, the City of Dunkirk Police Department is issuing a travel advisory until further notice. Non-essential travel is strongly discouraged.
Hazardous conditions include:
— Strong winds and heavy snow may cause downed trees and power lines.
— Downed power lines: Always assume any downed line is live and energized. Maintain a safe distance of at least 35 feet.
— Traffic signals: Treat intersections as a four-way stop if traffic lights lose power.
Important reminders:
— Keeping vehicles off the road will help facilitate snow plowing and ensure emergency vehicles can access the streets safely.
— Residents are asked to follow alternate parking regulations to assist with snow removal efforts and allow easier access for emergency responders.
