Routes 5 & 20 waterline project nearing construction
HANOVER — Construction is nearly ready to begin on the Routes 5 and 20 waterline project in Hanover.
At a recent Town Board meeting, Town Councilman Bernie Feldmann reported that DJM Contracting representatives recently met with Water and Sewer Superintendent Rob Weiskerger, where they informed him that work could begin as early as this week.
A pre-construction had yet to be scheduled as of the recent meeting, though a contract with DJM Contracting for the Routes 5 and 20 waterline project was approved by the Board at a previous meeting and the notice to proceed was received by the Town. The Town hopes that once the pre-construction meeting is held, the work will officially begin.
The project was left waiting for months before finally getting the go-ahead from contractors and the State Department of Transportation (DOT). The Town made an effort to coordinate with the DOT to avoid conflicting with the lane reduction project, as the water lines alongside Routes 5 and 20 will be dug up in the same area the lane reduction will take place. The Town has now been told to proceed with its project, while the DOT project is set to commence this upcoming spring.
The Town also held a recent virtual meeting regarding grant funding opportunities for a sewer line extension on Beebe Road. A week later, the Town had another meeting to discuss the scope of the project. A timeline is still yet to be determined.
The roof of the Highway Department building has been repaired. The roof was covered under warranty. All of the Town’s driveways and parking lots have been sealed. The beach parking lot has been paved and handicap space has been marked, and the docks have been removed at the Boat Launch.
Also of note, the new Town website has been established. Visit hanoverny.org for more information related to Town business.
The next meeting of the Hanover Town Board is Tuesday at 7:30 p.m. at the Hanover Town Hall and Court. The meeting was moved back a day from its regularly scheduled time to accommodate for Veterans Day.
