Portland board does not take raise in 2025

PORTLAND — The 2025 reorganizational meeting of the Town of Portland revealed raises for a handful of Town employees. One notable exception is the Town Board, who did not receive an increase to their salaries.

Rich Lewis will receive $8,615 as Town Supervisor, while the Town Board members receive $3,375. Highway Superintendent Ken Becker receives a salary of $65,870. All full-time Highway Department employees receive a rate of $27.67 per hour, paid at 90% in the first year of employment and in full after a year of service.

Town Clerk Barb Smith receives a salary of $35,060, while Town Justices receive $11,951 in 2025. The Town pays an hourly rate of $28.96 for Zoning and Inspection Officer services and $8,755 annually for its Tax Collector.

The Town approved its 2025 procurement policy, as well as the purchase limit of up to $5,000 for the Highway Superintendent and $1,000 for the Town Supervisor without prior approval. Bahgat & Laurito-Bahgat received $1,750 per month for bookkeeping services.

Tammy Thompson is the Deputy Supervisor of the Town. Thompson also serves on the Audit, Parks and Museums, and Joint Services committees, as well as Superintendent of Fires. Fire Wardens include Harold Smith, Tim Farnham and Jim Deakin. Robert Patterson Sr. is the Town’s delegate to the Lake Erie Concord Grape Belt Heritage Association.

Dale Carlson is reappointed as Planning Board Chairman, while Lowell Reynolds continues as Chairman of the Zoning Board of Appeals. Planning and Zoning Board members receive $300 per year, with Chairs receiving $500. The Planning Board Secretary receives $50 for each meeting.

Rick Comstock is the Deputy Highway Superintendent at a salary of $2,200. Rob Pawlak is Town Historian. Joel Seachrist remains as Town Attorney. Gloria McCormick continues as Dog Control Officer, along with Deputy Rich Carpenter. McCormick receives a salary of $9,442.

Barb Smith is the Registrar of Vital Statistics. Carolyn Magnuson and Roxane Sobecki are appointed as Deputy Town Clerks at an hourly rate of $17.06. They also each hold the title of Deputy Registrar of Statistics. Donna Wetsel is Deputy Tax Collector at an hourly rate of $17.06.
