Councilwoman against control board plan

Dunkirk Councilwoman Natalie Luczkowiak has come out against a financial control board plan for the city advocated by State Sen. George Borrello.

Luczkowiak, a Democrat representing the First Ward, put out a statement Monday morning on legislation offered by Borrello, a Republican.

“Similar to a ship changing its course in the ocean, that is the city’s current approach to the challenging financial crisis cast upon us,” Luczkowiak began.

“With determined and clear steps, with the guidance of the (New York state) Comptroller’s office, with the proactive interaction with officials in Albany from Council Chair Nick Weiser, and the workable concern of the council, the ship is currently navigating sideways before it can change its course.

“We are a small city of 12,000 to 13,000 people, we simply cannot afford a control board where the cost could be possibly $500,000 per year,” she continued.

“I question the democratic representation of a control board along with the lack of community input,” Luczkowiak concluded.

Starting at $3.50/week.
