Fredonia Main St. project starts Thursday
Fredonia officials recently offered a reminder that repaving of Main Street will start soon.
The New York Department of Transportation project is scheduled to begin Thursday, weather permitting, Fredonia Department of Public Works Director Scott Marsh told the Board of Trustees.
“There’s going to be some construction going on through town, it’s going to be a couple months,” he said. State workers will do culvert and drainage work, add pedestrian-friendly bumpouts at certain crosswalks, “and then it’s going to be a milling from village line to village line,” Marsh said.
“Folks may want to keep that in their calendar too if they want to find an alternate route, because it’s going to be a little busy,” Mayor Michael Ferguson said.
The estimated completion date of the project is Dec. 1, according to the “Projects In Your Neighborhood” section of NYDOT’s website. The state awarded a $3,957,619 contract for the project March 19. The web page does not state what company received the contract.
The project is funded entirely by the federal and state governments, with no village of Fredonia money used. Main Street carries Route 20 and largely because of that, NYDOT is responsible for long-term upkeep of the road.
