Scotch Bowling fundraiser set for April 25

Submitted Photo The third annual Scotch Bowling fundraiser will be held at Lucky Lanes on April 25 to honor the legacy of Timothy Ryan, a Fredonia High School graduate who died from COVID in 2021.

For the third year, a fundraising event will honor the legacy of a Fredonia High School graduate whose life came to an end much too soon.

On Friday, April 25, Lucky Lanes will host the Scotch Doubles Bowling Fundraiser, beginning at 7:30 p.m., with all proceeds from the event to benefit the Timothy Ryan Memorial Scholarship, through the Northern Chautauqua Community Foundation.

“Tim was a fun, caring individual. We hope that people come out to support the event so we can fund a scholarship and have fun doing it,” said Heidi Anne Powell, event organizer.

Participants will bowl three games at the event with varying twists throughout the evening. For the first game, one partner bowls the first ball between their partner’s legs. Participants then switch places with their partner for the second ball. During the second game, each partner will bowl one ball each with their non-dominant hand. In the third game, partners bowl their ball with both hands. Prizes will be awarded at the event, including a 50/50 raffle.

Entrance fees for the event are $40 per team of two, including three games bowled together and shoe rental. Payment must be submitted to Heidi Powell, via PayPal heidipowell73@yahoo.com, Venmo Heidi-Powell-35 (5094) or by check within one week to 66 Forest Place, Fredonia. Reservations should be made in advance, as spots are limited based on lane availability.

Timothy Walter Ryan was born on August 2, 1996 in Dunkirk, to Don and Joanne (Hoisington) Ryan. He passed away on Christmas Eve in 2021 at the age of 25 due to COVID.

He grew up with his older sister, Alanna, and younger brother, Jamison. A former Boy Scout, Ryan loved to build. He constructed a large deck on his family’s home and also built a chicken coop. Ryan often attended his nephew Ashton’s sporting events, gymnastic competitions for his niece Ayva, and dance recitals for his niece, Evalyn. He also had a special love for his cat Vader, and his puppy Ruby, gifted by his brother, Jamison.

Ryan graduated from Fredonia High School in 2015. He continued his education at York Technical/Trade College in South Carolina, where he earned his degree as a Utility Lineman. He worked for Consolidated Communications in Westfield prior to his untimely death.

The Timothy Ryan Memorial Scholarship is open to any northern Chautauqua County student pursuing higher education – high school or college. Candidates should exemplify characteristics exhibited by Ryan during his brief life, such as being loving, caring, generous, family-oriented, genuine, sincere, and humorous. Boy Scouts and individuals seeking a trade profession are preferred to honor Ryan’s legacy as a Boy Scout and lineman.
