Weiser comments on budget watch effort
Dunkirk Councilman-at-large Nick Weiser is keeping a close eye on the city’s budget, briefly describing some of his moves this week.
“Fiscal Affairs Officer (Ellen) Luczkowiak and I have begun meeting with representatives from various departments to ensure that actual spending remains on pace with what was budgeted,” Weiser told the rest of the Common Council.
“If a department is projected to exceed spending in one area, we’re asking that they identify offsetting reductions elsewhere within their budget,” he added. “Simply put, total departmental expenditures must remain within the limits set by this year’s adopted budget.
In addition, Weiser has asked Luczkowiak “to begin auditing select areas of the budget to ensure that expenditures are being charged to the appropriate line. This is essential, not only for transparency, but also for maintaining accurate records as we begin looking ahead to next year’s budget planning cycle.”
The councilman-at-large concluded, “We will continue to monitor budget adherence closely and provide updates as needed.”
Weiser also noted the next meeting of the Common Council’s Finance Committee, which he chairs. It’s set for 9 a.m. Tuesday in the mayor’s conference room at City Hall.
