Fredonia gets park fountain urns back

Fredonia has recovered the urns recently stolen from the Barker Common fountains, village Mayor Michael Ferguson said last week.

Ferguson made the announcement at a Board of Trustees meeting in response to queries from Sam Drayo about the subject. “We’ve recovered all four urns as of (May 24),” the mayor said.

The investigation into the vandalism is apparently still open, but Ferguson suggested officials “have a pretty good lead” on who was responsible,

Drayo wondered about the status of cameras in Barker Common. “There’s cameras in the park, unfortunately as we found out last week, they’re not working,” Ferguson responded. “So we’re going to get on top of that, we’ve got it on the list. …There’s cameras in the trees but they’re not showing up. So we have to make sure we address that.”

A webcam located in a Village Hall window does pick up part of the common. Fredonia Access recently posted a test video from the webcam to its YouTube channel.

Later in Tuesday’s meeting, Ferguson noted that a piano has returned to Barker Common.

“Four Legged Friends” by Mackenzie Sheldon is part of a local initiative that puts flashily painted pianos in public spaces. Previous versions of the piano in Barker Common were damaged by the elements and vandals. To protect against that, Ferguson said “Four Legged Friends” will be placed inside the gazebo.

Starting at $3.50/week.
