SILVER CREEK — The yearlong game of musical chairs with Silver Creek’s administration team had one final round at the latest Board of Education meeting. Superintendent Dr. Katie Ralston announced that starting July 1, High School Principal Wendy Harrod and Elementary Principal Heather Krystofiak will switch roles.
“I want to thank both Heather and Wendy for the work that they have done in both the elementary and the high school buildings. I’m very much looking forward to the work they will do in the opposite building,” Ralston said.
Harrod was hired as High School Principal last June. She is set to complete her first year with the district in the coming weeks. Krystofiak was hired as Elementary Principal in July of 2022.
Since Harrod was hired a year ago, the district has also added Sydney Neubauer to the administration team, first as Elementary Assistant Principal before eventually taking over as Middle School Principal. The district also shifted former Elementary Assistant Principal Shannon Matson to the new role of Director of Positive Interventions and Family Connectedness. Josh Case was hired in April as the new Elementary Assistant Principal.
“We’re in a very fortunate position to have the admin team that we do. … It’s pretty amazing to have a team that you can make those changes as we need it and when we need it,” Ralston said.
The district also appointed Rose Battleson to the special assignment position of PK-12 Instructional Coach. Battleson is professionally certified in Early Childhood (B-2), Students with Disabilities (B-2), Childhood Education (Grades 1-6), Mathematics 7-12, Students with Disabilities Generalist 7-12, and Students with Disabilities (Grades 1-6).
“Rose, we’re looking forward to the work that you’ll do. I know you’re going to be excellent,” Ralston said to Battleson.
Battleson responded, “I want to thank you all for the opportunity to go on this new adventure and work with teachers around the building. I’m very excited.”
Hannah Boothe, a Silver Creek graduate, was provisionally appointed as the district’s Accountant. Boothe is the daughter of former Board of Education President Stephen Boothe.
“We’re happy you chose to come home,” Ralston said to Boothe.
The Board also approved the contracts of Peter Brennan, Payroll and HR Clerk; Scott Pound, Director of Facilities; Emily Snyder, Occupational Therapist; Megan Cook, Director of Special Education; and Sean Helmer, Athletic Director.
Summer school position appointments were also approved, as was a conference request for Jamie Karnes, Jesse Hamms, and Justin Cerne to attend the Sweethearts and Heroes Tell the Trainer Conference.
The Board also accepted resignations from Elementary Teacher Jessica Tarnowski and Cleaner Don Matney. Randy Brunn was appointed as Cleaner at the recent meeting. Jill Valvo was appointed as Fitness Guard.
The next meeting of the Silver Creek Board of Education is Thursday, June 26 at 7 p.m.
