The Fredonia Fire Department recently honored two men for saving a person’s life.

Firefighter/medic Tyler Bayles and firefighter/emergency medical technician Mike Gustafson were awarded certificates of distinguished service at a Fredonia Board of Trustees meeting.

Fire Chief Joshua Myers said Bayles and Gustafson received the certificates for their actions on May 7, when a call came in for “a time sensitive and potential fatal cardiac emergency.”

Bayles and Gustafson answered the call “Within just two minutes,” according to Myers. “Advanced life support was at the patient’s side, providing critical intervention when every second counted. Through expert assessment, rapid stabilization and immediate transportation to an appropriate medical facility, the team ensured the patient received definite care without delay.”

The patient was discharged from a hospital May 27 in stable condition.

Myers told Bayles and Gustafson their certificates honor “professionalism, dedication and the exceptional care — you saved a life.”

Starting at $3.50/week.
