Boil-water order to continue through weekend

Fredonia water customers should expect to continue boiling through the weekend.
The village provided an update on its latest boil-water crisis Thursday morning. “At this point, residents and businesses should plan for the boil water order to remain in effect through the weekend,” according to the report from the village Office of Emergency Management. “We understand this poses a disruption, and we appreciate your continued patience and cooperation.”
The release states that “The Fredonia Water Treatment Plant continues to work closely with the Department of Health on an hourly basis to address the ongoing issue. At this time, crews are actively working to stabilize and reduce turbidity levels within the plant. This is a critical step toward restoring water quality to a safe and acceptable level.
“Once turbidity levels are consistently within regulatory limits, the required testing process will begin to verify that the water is safe for consumption. Only after the successful completion of this testing will the current boil water order be lifted.”
The next public update on the boil order is set for 10 a.m. Saturday, the village press release states.
The release also reminded Fredonians of today’s water distribution events. From noon to 2 and from 6 to 8 p.m., distributions will take place at the Fredonia Fire Department, 80 W. Main St., Fredonia. Proof of residency is required at the time of pickup.
