Forestville re-elects Spengler as president

FORESTVILLE — After a successful first year in their respective roles, the leaders of Forestville’s Board of Education are staying put.
Andrea Spengler was re-elected as President of the Board of Education at Forestville Central Schools. She was nominated by Jamie Gruber and faced no opposition.
Gruber was also re-elected to the role of Vice President. She was nominated by Michelle Merritt and also faced no opposition. Spengler and Gruber were officially sworn in for their roles, while Merritt was also sworn in as a Board member after being re-elected in May.
The Board also re-appointed Sophia Stewart as Student Board Member; Melody Voigt as District Clerk; and Stacy Korzenieski as District Treasurer. Various other roles within the district were also appointed and defined at the re-organizational meeting. Substitute rates were also set, as well as clock operator and ticket taker rates and rental fees for the auditorium.
Various committees were set, including Board committees, the School Safety Committee, the Professional Development Committee, the Technology Committee, and the Wellness Committee.
Gruber will serve as the Board’s representative on the Wellness Committee. Merrill will serve as the Chautauqua County School Boards Association Legislative Liaison. Lindsey Ellis will serve as the New York State School Boards Association Liaison.
Dr. Matthew Wehr will be the district’s Medical Director for the 2025-2026 school year. Christine Schnars was nominated as Area 3 Director and liaison to the New York State School Boards Association for a two-year term.
Contracts were also approved with R.A. Mercer & Co. for the external audit; with the local Service Employees International Union; with Stacey L. Lovern OTR/L; and with ESI for the Employee Assistance Program. Various budget transfers and purchase orders were also approved by the Board.
Also at its latest meeting, the Board held its first reading of a policy pertaining to the use of internet-enabled devices during the school day. Superintendent Dr. John O’Connor stated that the district consulted with stakeholders as the policy was drafted, including parents, students, and administrators in the process. Exceptions to the policy can be made upon request. “If you have a reason (to have a device), come to us and talk to us,” O’Connor said.
