HANOVER — Supervisor Lou Pelletter set a firm deadline to appoint Fire Commissioners to serve on the initial board of the Bay Creek Joint Fire District by the end of June. The Town of Hanover met that deadline.

At its latest meeting, the Town of Hanover appointed Shawn Smith, Andrew Allaire, Colleen Griewisch, Janet Harmon, and Rich Brennan as Fire Commissioners for the Bay Creek Joint Fire District. Each appointee shall serve on the Board until Dec. 31, at which point new Commissioners will be elected. Smith will serve in the role of Chairman. Town Accountant Elmar Kiefer will serve as a financial consultant to the district.

The first meeting of the Bay Creek Joint Fire District was held on Wednesday at the Hanover Town Hall.

At the next regular meeting of the Hanover Town Board, Monday, July 14, a public hearing will be held for the purpose of amending the local zoning laws to specifically define the use of small cellular tower facilities. A full copy of the law is available for review at the Town Clerk’s office.

The Town of Hanover also passed a resolution declaring itself as Lead Agency in the amendment of the Town of Hanover Comprehensive Plan. Updates to the Town of Hanover Code Enforcement permit/inspections fees were also approved by the Board, upon recommendation of Code Enforcement Officer Rich Vasile. Any work that commences prior to a permit being issued shall be charged at three times the cost of the required permit.

Several budget transfers pertaining to the Highway Department were also approved by the Town Board, including $200,000 for a paver and $330,530 for 10-wheeler dump trucks, as well as various other equipment purchases. The corresponding equipment purchases were previously approved by the Town Board.

The Town Board has canceled the service contract with Casella, instead opting to enter into a contract with Jaycor, for dumpsters located at the Town Hall, Town Beach, Boat Launch, Water Treatment Plant, Highway Department Building, and Bicentennial Park.

Marvin Cummings, a former Village of Silver Creek Deputy Mayor, was one of two Watchkeepers/Court Officers hired by the Hanover Town Court, along with Rafael Matthews, at an hourly rate of $17.58. Cummings recently retired as a decorated member of the Chautauqua County Sheriff’s Office. The role of Watchkeeper is estimated between 5-10 hours per month.

The Forestville Farmers’ Market is open for the season, held on Main Street in the hamlet of Forestville from 1-6 p.m. each Thursday. The Hanover Town Beach is also open seven days a week for the remainder of the summer.

Starting at $3.50/week.
