Perps punish plumbing in city jail
The Dunkirk Police Department’s jail cells took a beating last week, with police reporting two detainees causing damage.
The first incident is rooted in a June 24 call, when officers responded to an address on West Courtney Street for a disorderly subject. It was reported that the subject, Elijah R. Keefe, age 23 of Jamestown, was threatening a female at the address and attempting to punch her. Keefe also had an active warrant for unlawful dissemination out of Dunkirk City Court at the time.
Keefe was located by officers and arrested on his warrant, and was additionally charged with second-degree harassment for the incident. He was locked up at Dunkirk Police headquarters and later released on his own recognizance the next day.
On June 25, Dunkirk police responded to the same address on West Courtney Street as it was reported that Keefe was attempting to break into the victim’s vehicle. Keefe fled upon officers’ arrival but was located in a nearby residence and taken into custody. An order of protection had been put in place after his previous charges advising Keefe to stay away from the victim’s residence.
Keefe was transported to Dunkirk Police headquarters and booked on a charge of second-degree criminal contempt for violating the issued order of protection.
While in a holding cell, police report Keefe tampered with plumbing in the cell, causing an extensive amount of damage. Keefe was further charged with third-degree criminal tampering and additional charges are expected once the damage done is completely assessed. Keefe was remanded to Chautauqua County Jail on $5,000 bail.
Just a day after Keefe’s alleged damage, another cell got trashed.
On June 26, officers responded to an address on the 400 block of Deer Street for a report of a disorderly subject. Upon arrival officers identified the subject as Arianna Thompson, age 22 of Dunkirk.
Officers were aware that Thompson had an active warrant for second-degree criminal contempt.
The police attempted to take Thompson into custody for the warrant when she began physically resisting officers. During this, an uninvolved subject, identified as Jalon K. Krupinski, age 24 of Dunkirk, attempted to grab one of the officers and pull him off of Thompson. Krupinski then physically resisted officers when they attempted to place him into custody as well.
Both subjects were transported to Dunkirk Police headquarters where Krupinski was released on an appearance ticket charging him with second-degree obstruction of government administration. Thompson was booked on her warrant and additionally charged with resisting arrest.
The police report that while she was in a holding cell, Thompson became disorderly and smeared bodily fluids around the cell. Thompson then tampered with plumbing, causing the cell to flood. She was additionally charged with third-degree criminal tampering. Thompson was arraigned the following day and released.
