Special to the OBSERVER

STOCKTON – Fifty years ago, a small group of local antique tractor enthusiasts came together with a shared passion for preserving the past. They had no formal grounds, no buildings, and certainly no idea that their grassroots gathering would one day become one of Chautauqua County’s most cherished summer traditions.

Today, the Chautauqua County Antique Equipment Association (CCAEA) proudly stands as a living museum and a vibrant center of agricultural history, gearing up to host its 50th Antique Equipment Show from Friday to Sunday, Aug. 17, at its permanent home on Cemetery Road.

From Field to Foundation

The club’s journey began informally, with friends and neighbors meeting to show off and tinker with their old tractors, farm equipment, and engines.

As word spread and interest grew, As word spread and interest grew, what started as a hobby evolved into an annual show–and eventually, into an organization with a mission: to preserve the region’s agricultural and mechanical heritage for future generations.

Over the years, through countless volunteer hours and strong support from the local community and businesses, the Association was able to purchase its own grounds in Stockton. From there, it flourished–adding a museum, fully functional engine building, sawmill, blacksmith shop, print shop, gas station, and more.

CCAEA President Justin Mikula said “Without the donations, the volunteers, and the folks who keep showing up to support us — this would never have been possible.”

More Than Just Tractors

The 50th Show promises to be the biggest and best yet, featuring working demonstrations of vintage engines and machinery, tractor pulls, kids’ activities, antique automobiles, live music, and local food vendors. There’s even a bonfire and the always-popular chicken BBQ hosted by the Stockton Fire Department.

Newcomers and longtime attendees alike can explore a sprawling display of antique household items, browse the flea market, and experience hands-on history in one of the many restored buildings on the grounds.

Admission is just $5 (free for kids under 14), and seniors can enjoy a special $3 rate on Friday for Senior Citizen Day. Gates open daily at 9 a.m., and events run throughout the day.

A Legacy That Lives On

The CCAEA hosts additional events throughout the year, including other tractor pulls and community gatherings, but the Annual Show remains the heart of its mission. It’s a place where grandparents can share stories, kids can climb onto vintage tractors, and history is brought roaring — literally — back to life.

As the club celebrates its golden anniversary, its members remain focused on the future.

“We hope to be here another 50 years and beyond,” Mikula said. “We’re here because of the community.”
