Cyclists on mission coming through Fredonia

Bob Sanders

Bob Sanders, a 70-year-old Jewish former reporter turned activist, is cycling across the country from California to New Hampshire this summer in a Ride Against War on Gaza to protest Israel ethnic cleansing of Gaza and the West Bank and raise funds for humanitarian assistance and peace groups.

The ride has been endorsed nationally by Peace Action, the American Friends Service Committee and Veterans for Peace and Jerry Greenfield, formerly of Ben and Jerry, as well as numerous local groups. Half of any money raised will go to humanitarian aid to Gaza (through the AFSC emergency Gaza fund) and the other half to the peace movement.

His ride, which started May 30 from San Francisco, was interrupted by a jeep in Idaho, but now that he’s recovered from injuries, he resumed in Minnesota and will be through Fredonia on Sunday, Aug. 17.

Sanders is riding with Naor Deleanu, whose mother lives in Israel, and is looking for hosts “who would put us up, groups that will organize a small event, like a potluck or cyclist send off, or to invite me to speak at an existing event. That sounds like a lot, but any of the above would be extremely helpful, especially at the last minute,” Sanders said.

More on the effort can be found at https://nhpeaceaction.org/event/raw-gaza-x-country-tour/ and Sanders can be contacted at 716-244-1856.

Starting at $3.50/week.
