Dunkirk schools award capital project bids
The Dunkirk Board of Education recently awarded an array of contracts related to the city school district’s capital project.
NCI Construction won a general trades contract bid, for $3,983,000.Other bidders included Kirst Construction at $4,369,000 and Restarits Construction Corp. at $4,194,000.
A mechanical contract was awarded to Scobell Co., which had a $1,032,000 bid. Mazza Mechanical Services bid $1,156,000 and John W Danforth Co. bid $1,088,000 on that contract.
Electrical work is covered in a $849,997 contract awarded to Ahlstrom Schaeffer Electric Corp. That contract also saw bids by Industrial Power & Lighting Corp ($898,000) and BECC Electric ($875,000).
A plumbing work contract went to Numarco Inc. for $242,000. Numarco won out over Chautauqua Mechanical II ($255,439) and MKS Plumbing Corp. ($247,500) for the bid.
C.J. Brown Energy & Engineering also got a $10,950 contract for “commissioning.” Finally, Campus Construction Management Group Inc. Terracon received a bid for “special inspections and testing, due to the lowest responsible unit price costs for these services,” as the board meeting agenda put it. No dollar figure was specified.
The bids are part of an $83.7 million capital project approved by Dunkirk City School District voters in May. The long-term project includes numerous campus improvements, such as but not limited to: a new high school office and entrance area, renovations to playing fields and the high school cafeteria, an addition for School 7 with dedicated special education classrooms, and media center makeovers at Schools 5 and 7.
