Fiber arts group makes donation to VA Hospital

Members of The Secret Society of the Twisted Stitchers from Anderson-Lee Library in Silver Creek, worked together to knit and crochet these patriotic themed blankets.

The Secret Society of the Twisted Stitchers, a fiber arts group at Anderson-Lee Library in Silver Creek, has been working diligently this summer to create knit and crocheted blankets to donate to the VA Hospital in Buffalo.

Each long-term patient admitted to the hospital receives a blanket. Upon discharge each patient takes their blanket home to provide continued comfort in their recovery. Families of a hospitalized veteran will receive the blanket if the patient passes away, with the hopes that the blanket will bring comfort and warmth to those who grieve their loved one.

The Twisted Stitchers meet every Friday from 2 to 4 p.m. at the library, located at 43 Main St. in Silver Creek. Anyone who enjoys handiwork of any kind is welcome to drop in and join the group. Just bring a project to work on and enjoy each other’s company.

This group appreciates the opportunity to help beginners and others who would like to get started with knitting and crochet! Ages 10 and older are welcome. If you are a beginning knitter, bring size 10/10.5 bamboo needles and a light-colored worsted weight yarn (#4). For crochet, bring a size H hook and light-colored worsted weight yarn (#4).

Registration is not necessary to attend and you do not need to commit to each week to attend. Please stop in and stitch! For more information or questions, please call the library at 716-934-3468 or stop by 43 Main Street in Silver Creek.

Starting at $3.50/week.
