The sideline for the Fredonia Hillbillies is looking a lot different this upcoming soccer season.

The Fredonia Board of Education approved a series of athletic coaches for the 2025-26 school year, as recommended by Athletic Director Nick Bertrando. Among the most notable changes this year were new varsity head coaches for both boys and girls soccer programs.

Mason Redmond, a Fredonia teacher since the summer of 2023, takes over as the new varsity boys soccer head coach. He replaces longtime coach Jim Rush. Redmond was most recently the assistant coach for the varsity girls soccer team the past two seasons. Aaron Pietro will be the assistant coach this upcoming season, while Dan Tomaszewski will serve as a volunteer assistant coach.

While Redmond moves from the assistant role with the girls program to the top spot with the boys, there will be a new head coach of the girls program this year, as well.

Kyle Marvin replaces Cheryl Tabone as the varsity girls soccer head coach at Fredonia. Marvin is a former collegiate soccer player at SUNY Fredonia, where he was a three-time All-SUNYAC team selection and the SUNYAC leading scorer in 2002. Marvin later went on to coach as an assistant with the women’s program for several seasons. Kaylee Eaton will be the team’s assistant coach.

Notable returning varsity head coaches this upcoming year include head football coach Greg Sherlock, cross country coaches Carol Zirkle and Tom Stokes, girls swimming coach Allie Saye, and reigning Section VI champion volleyball coach Amanda Krakowiak.

Additionally, Brandy Kachelmeyer, RN, was appointed as a 10-day Athletic Nurse. Various instructional and team leaders were also appointed, as well.

Four resignations were accepted by the Board of Education at its recent meeting, including Kara Korhummel, a Special Education Teacher who recently earned tenure at Fredonia, and Kayla Hagen, a Special Education Teacher who was recently hired this past June. Katrina Sanders, Teacher Aide, and Roberta Pacos, Food Service Worker, also resigned from the district.

Eight employees were granted permanent status within the district. Those eight employees are Brian Tadt, Cleaner; Nancy Fadale, Food Service Helper; and six Teacher Aides, including Michelle Brinser, Katherine Friend, Jean Pacheo, Jennifer Paredes, Amy Rebmann, and Desiree Ziolkowski.

Kim Leid was provisionally appointed as School Food Service Director. Katrina Harper, Heather Shellenberg, and Karin Wheelock were appointed as Teacher Aides. Isaac Rodriguez was appointed as a 12-month, 8-hour Cleaner. Gary Butler was appointed as a 10-month, 3-hour Food Service Helper.

Kylee Odell (certified) and Shannon Moore (non-certified) were appointed as Extended Leave Substitutes. Per diem substitutes appointed at the recent meeting include Sophia Holmes, Victoria Patchkofsky, Savanna Watts, Michael Ball, Jane Gens, and Liam Moon, a lifeguard. Daniel Gifford was approved for fieldwork/observations under the direction of Amy Zappie.

Starting at $3.50/week.
