JCC graduates seven from workforce program designed for Hispanic community

Graduates of JCC’s Industrial Maintenance Technician program hold their certificates.
Seven students graduated from SUNY Jamestown Community College’s 12-week Industrial Maintenance Technician program at the Dunkirk North County Center on Aug. 29.
The seven represent the 10th graduating class of the IMT program, which is run by JCC’s Workforce Development team.
This group was unique in that it was designed for members of the Hispanic community. A Hispanic outreach coordinator, Jennifer Montes, worked with JCC staff to support outreach efforts in the community, and worked alongside the students in the classroom, translating curriculum and providing real-time bilingual support for instruction.
Students had an opportunity to interview with several local employers prior to the graduation ceremony.
“This was a very successful pilot program targeting JCC’s Hispanic audience in the Chautauqua County region,” said Gregg Karl, JCC’s Workforce Development program manager. “Students were able to gain marketable hands-on skills in an in-demand occupation in our area. We wish them the best of luck as they seek employment opportunities in industrial maintenance technology.”
