Revitalize Dunkirk is creating a trail at Point Gratiot and needs the help of residents. It’s holding a trail naming contest.

Creating a name for a new trail is a unique opportunity to leave your mark on the landscape, to celebrate the beauty of nature, and to unite the community under a shared vision. To ensure that the process is fair, engaging, and productive, Revitalize Dunkirk has outlined clear and comprehensive rules for the contest.

Please read the following guidelines carefully before submitting your entry.

— Entries must be submitted via the official online form. It can be accessed by scanning the QR code on posters advertising the contest, or check Revitalize Dunkirk’s website (www.revitalizedunkirk.com) or Facebook page for a form.

— All submissions must include the participant’s full name, contact information (email and/or phone number), and, for minors, guardian contact information.

— All entries must be received by Oct. 25. Late submissions will not be considered.

Entries will be evaluated based on the following criteria:

— Originality: The name should be unique and not duplicate existing trail or park names in the region.

— Relevance: The name should relate to the trail’s features, surrounding nature, history, or community values.

— Simplicity: The name should be easy to pronounce, spell, and remember.

After the submission deadline, all eligible entries will be reviewed by the Trail Naming Committee. The final selection may be made by committee vote. The winning name will be announced on the Revitalize Dunkirk website.

The individual or group whose trail name is selected will receive an official certificate of recognition and a gift card. No cash alternative will be provided for any prize.

The contest is officially open for submissions as of Sept. 27.
