Press upgrades underway at Post-Journal

At The Post-Journal, we’ve always taken pride in delivering a high-quality printed newspaper to our readers, and we’re investing to make that product even better.

Earlier this summer, we completed the replacement of our south-end press units at our central production facility in Jamestown. Now, as of September 8, we’ve begun the final phase of this major press upgrade: replacing the north-end units.

This work is expected to be completed by September 26, 2025.

Once the project is finished, our press capacity will increase from 10 units to 12, allowing for improved production efficiency and print quality. These upgrades are made possible through our acquisition of The Dominion Post in Morgantown, W.V., a strategic move that enabled us to bring in a significantly newer press with more advanced capabilities.

Our previous press, dating back to the 1950s, has served us well for decades. But this modern equipment brings notable improvements, including finer color quality, faster turnaround times, and better overall efficiency. After running tests and fine-tuning the system, we expect readers will notice sharper, cleaner pages and a smoother experience overall.

We also want to assure our readers that there will be no interruption to your daily newspaper during this transition. While we may temporarily print in slightly smaller sections and conduct more press runs to accommodate installation, you can expect the same page count, color, and quality you’ve always received.

Beyond the technical improvements, this upgrade reflects our long-term investment in Jamestown and the surrounding region.

Currently, we print three daily newspapers: The Post-Journal in Jamestown, The OBSERVER in Dunkirk, The Times Observer in Warren, PA, as well as The Westfield Republican in Westfield, and numerous commercial printing customers.

By modernizing our press operations, we will support local job stability while positioning The Post-Journal to obtain more customers within our region, reaffirming our commitment to local journalism and the community we’ve proudly served for nearly 200 years.

Thank you for your continued readership and support as we take this exciting step forward.
