SHERIDAN — The latest solar project in the town of Sheridan, identified as Sheridan II Solar, has checked every box so far on its way toward a potential approval. The next step is a public hearing regarding the project, scheduled for the next regular monthly meeting of the Sheridan Town Board, Wednesday, Sept. 10 at 7 p.m.

The Sheridan II Solar project is a 3-megawatt solar energy system to be located at 2979 Middle Road. The project is proposed by RIC Energy, and it abides by the town’s solar energy laws and setback guidelines. Members of the Town Board noted they were impressed with the presentation by Glenn MacKay, Development Manager, at a meeting in early July because of how well the Town’s laws were followed in the design of the project.

At a special meeting near the end of August, the Town Board declared itself as Lead Agency for the project and issued a Negative Declaration under the State Environmental Quality Review Act (SEQRA).

The Town Board also set a bid date of Friday, Sept. 12 for the Sheridan Bay Park Campground project. The project is gearing up for Phase II of renovations to the park, focused on public restrooms for guests of the park. Phase I of the project, which is now complete, pertained to the installation of new electrical lines, water lines and drainage at the park. Storage and other facilities at the park could be included in a future project.

The project is supported by state grant funds, but it has been delayed as the state requested official documentation that the park belongs to the Town of Sheridan. The Town Board recently passed a resolution clarifying the matter to adhere to the state’s request. Once the Town Board receives approval from the state, the renovations will proceed.

Contracts for the ongoing renovations to the Highway Department Building were also adjusted and approved by the Board to allow the project to proceed. The project was already approved, but as some time has passed since its initial approval, the Board re-approved the project on an updated contract.

The Town Board also recently approved a contract with J.F. Grant Consulting Services to pursue grant funding through the Chautauqua County Occupancy Tax Grant program. An agreement was also approved with DFT for phone system upgrades.

Water meters for Water District No. 3 were approved for purchase at an amount not to exceed $6,260.64. The Town Board is hopeful to hear back from bond counsel pertaining to the formation of Water District No. 4 in the coming weeks.

Starting at $3.50/week.
