Two teachers resign from Silver Creek

SILVER CREEK — The majority of the buzz surrounding Silver Creek opening school was overwhelmingly positive, but it was not all good news for the Black Knight family, as two teachers finalized plans to resign from the district.
Social Studies Teacher Kristen Foley and Special Education Teacher Holly Carroll resigned from Silver Creek High School. Foley’s resignation will take effect Sept. 25, while Carroll’s resignation is effective Oct. 1.
Foley was heavily involved in the district’s Seal of Civic Readiness program. She also coordinated a visit from Congressman Nick Langworthy where students were given the opportunity to learn more about government from a sitting member of Congress in the board room of the district lobby.
In her resignation letter, Carroll said of her time at Silver Creek, “I truly enjoyed working with Silver Creek Schools. I deeply value the support of my colleagues, the dedication of my team, and the meaningful relationships I have been fortunate to build with both students and staff. My time here has been rewarding, both personally and professionally, and I will always carry with me the lessons and experiences gained.”
Both teachers are required to remain with the district for 30 days as stipulated in their contracts in an effort to ease the transition for students. Foley stated in her resignation, “I understand the importance of a smooth transition and am willing to assist in any way I can during my final days here.”
The district is currently accepting applications for both vacancies with an anticipated start date this fall.
Other recent resignations at the district include Rhonda Stalker, Teacher Aide; and Stefan Mayr, Bus Driver. Lisa Buczkowski and Jennifer Pagano resigned from extracurricular assignments. Cindy Thurston was terminated from the role of Lunch Monitor.
The Board approved several probationary appointments, including Tanner Templin, 12-month Cleaner; Adam Lukasik, Bus Driver; Carl Racinowski Jr., Bus Driver; and Lindsey Allen, Teacher Aide.
Sarah Pfleuger, who recently resigned from the full-time role of Teacher Aide, was approved as a substitute. Savannah Delmonte was granted permanent status as a Lunch Monitor. Various extracurricular positions were also filled, while teacher mentors and student teachers were approved, as well.
Several budget transfers were approved, including the voter-approved allocation of reserve funds to purchase vehicles for the district. An individual transportation agreement was approved by the Board, while three conference requests for district employees were also approved. The second reading of various district policies was held at the latest meeting, followed by the adoption of a substantial list of district policies.
Superintendent Dr. Katie Ralston provided an update on the district’s capital project at the latest Board meeting. The project was approved by voters last year and has been submitted to the State Department of Education for approval. State review of the project is underway. The district hopes to start construction on the project in April.
The next Silver Creek Board of Education meeting is scheduled for Thursday, Oct. 9 at 7 p.m.
