Following an article in the OBSERVER and the Post-Journal highlighting the “dire need” of a new ambulance for the Cassadaga Fire Department, representatives from Congressman Nick Langworthy’s office are among those who have reached out to offer assistance in securing a new vehicle.
“It’s amazing, since it hit the newspaper, how much interest there has been,” said Village Trustee Danna DuBois, a member of the Fire Department.
The Cassadaga Fire Department’s ambulance was out of service for seven days earlier this fall, but has not had issues since it returned to service. Still, the department knows that at any moment, issues could arise again. Members of the department have been evaluating several possible options, including multiple ambulances available for purchase. DuBois expressed optimism that a recommendation to the Board could be submitted sometime in October.
During the month of August, the Cassadaga Fire Department responded to 30 calls, including 22 Emergency Medical Service calls, five motor vehicle accident calls and one fire call.

At the recent meeting, the Village Board approved Fire Department purchases of equipment for $6,792.65 and turnout gear for $4,372. As of Sept. 24, the village’s Capital Reserve Fund for Fire Department Equipment showed a total of $38,733.79.
Also of note, Nancy Wickmark reported on behalf of the Cassadaga Lakes Association that the plan to remove beaver dams around the lakes is being revised. Wickmark said permitting for beaver dam removal should come soon, with removal targeted by the end of October. Wickmark also said the New York Forward Grant Committee has been in discussions with developers for potential improvements along the Main Street area of the village.
The Village Board has decided on a closing date of Oct. 16 in preparation for the bidding process for its water project to proceed. It is estimated that the village will spend approximately $800,000 in pre-construction work related to the project. The village was approved for up to $5 million in grant funding through New York State’s Water Infrastructure Improvement Act (WIIA) program. A workshop with Matt Zarbo of Square Engineering was held prior to the latest Village Board meeting detailing the project as it stands prior to being posted for bids.
The next meeting of the Village Board is Wednesday.
