Fredonia OKs Marsh as consultant

OBSERVER Photo by M.J. Stafford Fredonia’s Department of Public Works is seeking a new supervisor, but has retained the services of the previous one.

The village of Fredonia is advertising for a new Department of Public Works supervisor after Scott Marsh retired — but also hired him back.

The village Board of Trustees voted 4-1 this week to use Marsh as a DPW consultant. He will make $35 per hour on an “as needed” basis and can’t make more than $10,000 in a fiscal year.

Trustee Michelle Twichell voted “no,” without comment. However, she said during last week’s Board of Trustees workshop that she didn’t want to spend the money on Marsh’s consultation.

“I don’t feel comfortable hiring him back, and I don’t know if you want me to talk about that in public,” she added. Twichell did not further explain that comment, either at the workshop or Monday.

Doug Bunge is acting as an interim DPW supervisor until a permanent one is hired, Fredonia Mayor Michael Ferguson said Monday.

Fredonia’s ad for the new DPW supervisor has an application deadline of Friday. It requires a high school diploma and at least six years of public works experience for applicants. A candidate must also possess a New York state drivers license, and either have a Class D state water license or get it within two years of appointment.

A salary from $45,000 to $65,000 is mentioned.

Starting at $3.50/week.
