GOWANDA — At a recent Board of Education meeting, the Gowanda Central School District has approved the proposed 2026 Senior Class Trip. Students will visit Lake George from May 1 to 3.

Student Board member Isabelle Graham presented the plans of the trip to the Board of Education. Graham was involved in the planning process of the trip. She listened to her fellow students and proposed a senior trip with an outdoorsy theme, as many of her classmates wanted a camping trip to cap off their senior year.

As part of the trip, students will visit Howe Caverns on a tour that takes them more than 150 feet underground. They will encounter limestone corridors, a cavernous valley and sizable boulders.

The trip also includes a visit to a mysterious spot where voices echo back to the speaker. There is also an Adirondack Extreme experience including Tarzan swings and a zip line. Students will also experience a chartered boat cruise of the lake, as well as a Ghost Tour at Fort William Henry. Students will also have an opportunity to go bowling, go-kart racing, and adventure golfing.

“I think that trip looks fantastic. I fully support it,” said Board member John Waterman Jr.

The trip provides two breakfasts, one lunch, and two dinners, along with round trip transportation and accommodations for two nights in rooms of four. Any additional meals or personal purchases will be at the students’ expense.

Cost of the trip is anticipated at $819 per person if at least 35 students participate. More than 50 students have already expressed interest in the trip. Fundraising opportunities to support the trip include the sale of wreaths and poinsettias, as well as local restaurant dinners, a chicken barbecue, and salsa sales.

The trip will also require four chaperones. It is the district’s preference to have chaperones that are employees of the district, rather than parents, as students are encouraged to branch out on one final school experience before graduation. Parents and guardians will be considered if the district is unable to find in-house chaperones.

The Board reserves the right to cancel the trip if student health and safety concerns arise.

Starting at $3.50/week.
