Village water order may end this weekend
Rainy weather should allow Fredonia’s water conservation order to get lifted “by the end of the weekend,” Mayor Michael Ferguson said Wednesday.
“The water’s almost over the spillway (at the reservoir), so in the next couple days I expect it to be flowing over,” said Luis Fred, chief water treatment plant operator. Ferguson and Fred spoke at a Fredonia Board of Trustees workshop.
Fredonia water customers were asked to take conservation measures Oct. 15. These included turning off the faucet while brushing teeth, shaving, or washing dishes; running dishwashers with full loads; using disposable plates, cups, and utensils; and no watering of lawns or washing of vehicles.
According to the National Weather Service, the village received 2.29 inches of rain over a 24-hour period from Wednesday to Thursday morning.
“We’re holding off on lifting the conservation request because we are seeing some increase, but it’s better safe than sorry,” Ferguson said. “The creeks are running pretty good right now.”
The mayor thanked village employees and the Department of Health for their help with the conservation order.
He concluded, “We want to thank the public for conserving water. You could see the difference almost immediately. I would imagine, by the end of the weekend, we’ll be able to (rescind the order).”
