Silver Creek highlights students at board meeting

Allie Rozewicz, a seventh-grade student at Silver Creek, presented jars of homemade jelly that she and her fellow students created as a club project to the Board of Education at a recent meeting.

SILVER CREEK — The Silver Creek Board of Education set aside time at the beginning of its latest meeting to recognize two students for their own unique talents.

First, Brian Wagner was recognized for his school spirit and named as the district’s new security guard. Later, Allie Rozewicz was celebrated for her efforts in creating homemade jelly.

Superintendent Dr. Katie Ralston asked Wagner to stand at the meeting as she sang his praises. “If you come to any school event — and I mean any school event whatsoever — the number one person celebrating, cheering anyone on, welcoming people there is Brian,” Ralston said.

Ralston joked she was “waiting to see Brian in the end zone” at football games with how enthusiastic he was along the sidelines. Wagner is a member of Unified sports at Silver Creek, and recently scored a basket during an assembly game on campus.

“It’s really special when peers can be happy for peers, and they can celebrate everybody. That just brings a whole different level of school spirit,” Ralston said.

Ralston then announced to the Board that Wagner was selected as the district’s first Security Guard, a role that entails walking the halls to make sure all classrooms are secure, doors are shut and people are where they need to be. Ralston presented Wagner with his own custom security guard t-shirt, including the phrases BKP for the school motto of Black Knight Pride, and #everyday for the district’s emphasis on attendance.

Following Wagner’s presentation was Allie Rozewicz, a seventh grade student, who was invited to speak to the Board about her club project to create homemade jelly. The club picked the grapes straight from the vines, then went through all the steps to create jelly.

Rozewicz stepped forward and stood in front of the audience as she described the process in detail to the Board of Education. She then presented two jars of the finished product to the Board as a gift. The club produced 14 jars in total. Ralston expressed how impressed she was in Rozewicz for memorizing the process to describe to the Board.

Since taking over as Superintendent in the summer of 2023, Ralston has made it a tradition at Board meetings to recognize students or staff who have made a difference at the school. Like many others before them, Wagner and Rozewicz posed for photos before heading home for the evening.

The next meeting of the Silver Creek Board of Education is Thursday, Dec. 11 at 7 p.m.

Starting at $3.50/week.
