Artscape Fredonia gearing for banner event

Artscape banners hang in Jamestown last summer.
Artists from throughout the Tri-County area — Chautauqua, Cattaraugus, Allegany — are invited to submit images of their artworks to be considered for Artscape Fredonia, a new public art banner program that will bring original works to the streets surrounding Barker Common in downtown Fredonia.
The submission period for artists is today through Jan. 10. Businesses, individuals and organizations are also encouraged to participate as sponsors within that timeframe as well. Sponsors’ names will appear on the banners, showing community support for the arts and downtown revitalization.
Artscape Fredonia offers a vibrant new platform for regional artists to share their creativity with residents and visitors alike. The project aims to enliven public spaces, celebrate local talent, and strengthen the cultural and economic vitality of the Fredonia area.
Some of the guidelines include:
— Artists should submit vertically oriented images with a 4-to-3 aspect ratio, or cropping may occur to fit banner dimensions. Entries are welcome from artists aged 18 and older and at experience levels.

— A $10 jury fee for submitting one, two or three artworks will help offset program costs.
— Sponsors will be notified upon receipt of form and artists will be notified upon completion of jurying on Feb. 1.
— Accepted artwork originals will need to be delivered Feb. 8 to 10 at a Fredonia location that will be announced.
— Accepted Artists’ Originals Pop-up Exhibition and Sponsors Reception for the public will be April 24 from 5 to 7 p.m. in Fredonia.
— Banners are to be installed throughout May.
Coordinated by the North Shore Arts Alliance, Artscape Fredonia is modeled after Jamestown’s banner program developed by Chautauqua Art Gallery and the Jamestown Renaissance Corporation. NSAA’s new initiative in Fredonia extends the county’s commitment to art and community collaboration by transforming public spaces into open-air galleries that inspire connection, pride, and creativity.
Artscape Fredonia is generously supported by The Northern Chautauqua Community Foundation.
