SILVER CREEK — After a decade of service to the village of Silver Creek, including eight years as Village Mayor, Jeff Hornburg is ready to pass the torch to Kathy Tampio.
Just before that, at his final meeting as Mayor, Hornburg was recognized with a letter of commendation from County Executive PJ Wendel, read aloud by County Legislator Tom Harmon. The letter stated that Hornburg “has faithfully served the residents of the village of Silver Creek for a decade.”
Hornburg began as a Village Trustee for two years, then assumed the duties of Mayor eight years ago. Wendel wrote that in his time as Mayor, Hornburg has “consistently championed transparent, practical, and community focused governance for the village.”
Wendel said Hornburg maintained a “fair and responsible” tax base, with tax reductions each year, while still securing new equipment for the village.
Among the village’s achievements under Hornburg’s leadership include the securing of a Water Infrastructure Improvement Act grant for wastewater and sewer system upgrades, grant funding obtained to revitalize homes in the village, and the support of development projects such as the Hideaway Bay Resort, Dave’s Christmas Outlet store, and the Main Street School demolition and redevelopment as a senior housing facility. Hornburg also oversaw the renovation of the fountain in the Village Square, installation of new playground equipment and an ADA-compliant kayak launch, and the transition to energy efficient street lighting.
Wendel called Hornburg, a lifelong resident of Silver Creek, “a devoted husband, father, and grandfather, whose family values and steadfast character have guided his leadership and service.”
Hornburg joked after the proclamation was read, “You did a lot of research.”
Harmon then thanked Hornburg for all he has done for the village he calls home. “For this district and the village, you have done outstanding work, and I want to thank you personally for what you do,” Harmon said.
Upon the request of Mayor-elect Tampio, Hornburg agreed to run for a Trustee seat when Tampio agreed to run for Mayor. He was elected in November, and will support Tampio through the transition.
Hornburg said, “It has been a great 10 years.” He called his tenure “very rewarding” and looks forward to being on the Board as a Trustee moving forward.
Village Trustee Sandra Lindstrom said, “Jeff, thank you for your years of service and dedication to our community.” Lindstrom thanked Hornburg for his guidance, and looks forward to continuing their working relationship as Trustees.
Tampio also gave thanks to Hornburg, and presented him with a gift before the meeting concluded.
