Silver Creek hires new math teacher

SILVER CREEK — The final Board of Education meeting at Silver Creek in 2025 was an eventful one. It included the approval of bids, the acceptance of donations, and a handful of personnel moves. Most notably among the personnel moves is the hiring of a new mathematics teacher at Silver Creek High School, Hannah Harshberger.

Harshberger was appointed to a four-year probationary teaching position retroactive to Dec. 1. Her salary for the 2025-2026 school year is $41,600, prorated to her start date. Harshberger holds initial certification in Mathematics Grades 7-12.

In other personnel moves, the Board also approved the hiring of Shawn Smith as a part-time cleaner for up to 24 hours per week at a rate of $16 per hour. Corina Martin was provisionally appointed as a 10-month operations assistant at a rate of $16 per hour. Carl Racinowski was appointed as a lunch monitor at a rate of $16 per hour.

Dan Tomaszewski was named Teacher of Record. Gavin DeFries and Everett LeBarron were named as Information Technology Interns. Rachael Schneider was appointed as the junior varsity girls basketball coach, as well as a substitute Ski Club Advisor. A series of intramural coaches and volunteer coaches were also approved.

Ashlynn Powers completed her probationary period of employment and was granted permanent status as a Teacher Aide, effective Jan. 6. Greg Brennan completed his probationary period of employment and was granted permanent status as a Payroll Clerk, effective Dec. 12.

Bailey Zbytek was appointed as a permanent substitute at a rate of $225 per day. Additionally, per diem substitutes appointed include former High School Principal Wendy Harrod, Mari Carmen Buchnowski, Jordan Lemmon, Lindsey Rice, Chris VanCheri, Stephanie VanCheri, Dustin Hardman, and cleaner Jamal White.

A policy regarding surveillance cameras in the district and on school buses was adopted, while the second reading on several policies was also held. Additionally, the field trip for the Travel and Tourism class to Orlando, Fla., April 22-27 was approved.
