Scudder, 2 others join water district board

A county legislator representing Fredonia is now on the North County Water District administrative board. The board also added two new town supervisors.

Bob Scudder will replace the retired Legislator Terry Niebel of Sheridan on the board, said its vice chairman Rich Lewis. Scudder attended the January meeting of the board.

Dunkirk Town Supervisor Shari Miller and Sheridan Town Supervisor Steve Roach are new to their positions and also attended their first board meeting.

Lewis welcomed the trio of newbies to the board. He ran the meeting because Chairman Daniel Pacos, the Pomfret town supervisor, was absent. Lewis is Portland’s town supervisor.

The addition of Scudder to the board is evidently another step in efforts to connect Fredonia with the North County Water District. The village’s trustees voted in September to acquire water from the district through the town of Pomfret.

Fredonia is actively seeking grants, and hired LaBella to do engineering work for the project. Village representatives are regularly meeting about the plan with its other stakeholders, such as town and county officials.

Though Village Hall is moving ahead, three residents have sued to halt the project. They belong to “Save Our Reservoir,” a faction in Fredonia that wants the village to keep its own water system.

Starting at $3.50/week.
