Antacid buy turns Lazarony’s stomach
Fredonia Trustee LeeAnn Lazarony’s cost-cutting crusade extends to a $3.33 bottle of antacids.
Lazarony hassled Department of Public Works Director Dave Bird about a bill one of his employees submitted to the village for antacids, during a Board of Trustees workshop Monday.
“I know everyone’s going to go, ‘Oh my God, she’s so picky.’ But there was a bill submitted to bills and payroll for antacids. I don’t think that’s part of the first aid kit,” Lazarony said to Bird.
Bird said he wasn’t aware the order was placed. Someone else from DPW did it, he said.
“Note to self: No antacids. Bring your own,” cracked Mayor Michael Ferguson. Laughter filled the meeting room.
Lazarony replied, “I’m just saying that someone has to be fiscally responsible for all these little things, and I’m asking questions because I think it’s important.”
Ferguson said later her point was well taken and the village does need to be wary about spending.
Lazarony concluded that she would vote for the antacid purchase to not get approved.
Bird evidently texted someone for more information, and had it later in the meeting. He said antacids used to come in medical cabinets which DPW purchased under a contract that has since been canceled. DPW is now purchasing everything that came in the medical cabinet separately, including the antacids.
