Route 60 accident in Gerry claims life
GERRY — A 66-year-old woman has died in a motor vehicle collision on Sunday night.
Early Monday, the Chautauqua County Sheriff’s Department reported that at around 6:18 p.m., they and multiple other agencies responded to the two-vehicle accident with serious injuries on Route 60. Upon arrival and through an investigation at the scene, it was determined that a vehicle was traveling north in the southbound lane of Route 60.
A second vehicle was traveling south in the southbound lane, and the vehicles struck each other head on. The driver of the northbound vehicle was pronounced deceased at the scene. The two occupants of the southbound vehicle, a woman, 19, and man, 20, were transported to area hospitals for treatment of serious injuries.
Departments from Ellington, Cassadaga, County EMS, Gerry and Sinclairville also were at the scene. For hours on Sunday evening, the stretch of Route 60 — from Cassadaga at Maple Avenue to Gerry at the four corners — was closed.
At this time, deputies report, the investigation is ongoing and additional information will be released at a later time.
