10th boil water order for Fredonia in last 37 months issued
Fredonia echoes with disgust this morning after yet another boil water order was issued.
The terrible shape of the village’s water infrastructure has caught up with it again. A little after 9 a.m., the village of Fredonia Office of Emergency Management, in coordination with the Village Water Treatment Plant and the County Department of Health, issued the boil order for Fredonia water customers.
“High turbidity levels leaving the water treatment plant” was the stated reason for the latest boil order.
It’s the 10th boil order in Fredonia in the past 37 months. The last one was in January.
Though weary Fredonians are probably well aware of the rules by now, they must boil water for at least a minute before using it for drinking, cooking, brushing teeth and food preparation. The water is safe for bathing/showering and laundry.
Fredonia must now clear two Department of Health tests over 48 hours before the boil order is lifted. “Water sampling may begin as early as Sunday,” according to the village.
