Firing of gunshots lead to shelter in place order in city

A shelter in place has been issued in the city of Dunkirk for the Franklin Avenue area after reports of gunshots Tuesday morning.
Scanner reports indicate the incident occurred near 4 E. Doughty St. with both city police and Fredonia police responding. Residents in the area are advised to stay inside their home with doors locked until further notice. The call came in around 6:21 a.m.
Dunkirk Fire Department also was on Doughty Street around 10 a.m. Its truck was blocking access to the Franklin Avenue area that included police and emergency vehicles as well as other law-enforcement presence.
