Person in custody after gunshot event

A person was in custody Tuesday afternoon after a more than seven-hour standoff that took place in the city beginning with gunshots around sunrise.
Dunkirk Police Department, in a Facebook post before 2 p.m., announced the incident on Franklin Avenue concluded and one person was in custody. In addition, the shelter in place also was lifted. City police said further information would be released when time permits.
Scanner reports indicated the incident occurred near 4 E. Doughty St. with both city police and Fredonia police responding. Residents in the area at the time were advised to stay inside their home with doors locked. The call came in around 6:21 a.m.
The Dunkirk Fire Department also was on Doughty Street during the incident. Its truck was blocking access to the Franklin Avenue area and included police and emergency vehicles as well as the presence of other law-enforcement.
