Dunkirk police are asking for the public’s assistance in a hit-and-run accident involving a vehicle and bicyclist.
At approximately 8:57 p.m. Sunday, Dunkirk Police along with Dunkirk Fire responded to Lincoln Avenue near West Talcott Street for a report of a bicyclist struck by a vehicle. Upon arrival, the suspect vehicle had fled the scene and the victim was located on the side of the road. Officers rendered medical aid until Dunkirk Fire personnel arrived on scene. The victim was transported to ECMC in Buffalo for apparent serious injuries.
It was determined that a white SUV struck the bicyclist and continued south on Lincoln Avenue. The SUV initially pulled over, but instead of checking on the victim, two to three subjects exit, briefly inspect the damage to their vehicle, then get back in and continue south on Lincoln Avenue.
Patrol officers and detectives are in the process of obtaining several pieces of surveillance footage, along with follow ups with multiple witnesses. Dunkirk Police are asking anyone in the public who may have video footage of the incident or vehicle, or knowledge of who may be involved, to contact Dunkirk Police Headquarters at 716-366-2266. Callers may remain anonymous if they wish.
