There is a new future for the former WCA Home in Fredonia.
On Sunday afternoon, the WCA Home Board of Directors announced the cherished WCA Home facility, which closed its doors during the pandemic, will be brought back to life as the new Northern Chautauqua County Headquarters for Aspire of WNY, a leading nonprofit provider of services for children and adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities.
This partnership is the culmination of a multi-year effort by the WCA Home board to secure a mission-aligned nonprofit organization to continue the building and organization’s legacy of human services and community support.
On March 10, Aspire of WNY and the WCA received approval from the village of Fredonia on their request for a use variance for the property on Temple Street.
Aspire of WNY plans to use the historic structure as a vibrant center for day habilitation, vocational training, respite care, and community integration programs, thereby significantly expanding critical services and employment opportunities in the heart of Fredonia and across Northern Chautauqua County. The new hub will leverage the building’s unique spaces to offer innovative programs, including employment skills development, art therapies, and community volunteer initiatives.
“We’ve spent the past few years diligently searching for the right partner–one who understands the depth of commitment the WCA Home has had to this community for over a century,” said Lori Poniatowski, Board President of WCA Home. “In Aspire of WNY, we found that partner. Their dedication to creating spaces and communities where people belong, coupled with their extensive history in human services, ensures that the spirit and mission of the WCA Home will not only continue but will thrive in Fredonia and throughout Chautauqua County.”
The new headquarters will consolidate and expand Aspire of WNY’s existing services in the area, offering greater accessibility and a continuum of care for individuals and families. Aspire of WNY currently operates in Fredonia, in a commercial space in the town square and in several group homes in Northern Chautauqua County.
“Aspire of WNY is honored to be entrusted with the next chapter of the WCA Home,” said Renee A. Filip, President & CEO of Aspire of WNY. “This facility is the perfect location to deliver and expand our person-centered services to the Fredonia community, creating a true hub that brings together people of all abilities. By investing in this beautiful, historic property, we are continuing the WCA Home’s powerful legacy of support, ensuring it remains a source of pride and opportunity for generations to come.”
The establishment of this new headquarters is expected to create new employment opportunities for Fredonia residents in administrative, clinical, and direct support roles, further bolstering the local economy.
Aspire of WNY and the WCA Home Board look forward to working closely with the Village of Fredonia, neighbors, and community members to finalize the transition and plan community engagement events in the coming months.
Since 1947, Aspire of WNY has been a leading nonprofit organization dedicated to supporting children and adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities to live fulfilling, independent lives throughout their lifespans, achieving their greatest potential and actualizing their dreams. With a long-standing footprint across Western New York, Aspire of WNY is committed to person-centered programs that foster independence, community integration, and advocacy.
