A Westfield man is facing charges after a shooting and police chase that took place Saturday night.
At 7:24 p.m., the Westfield Police Department, along with the Chautauqua County Sheriff’s Office, the New York State Police and the Chautauqua County District Attorney’s Office, were dispatched to a residence at 140 W. Main St. in the village.
Following an extensive investigation into the circumstances, it was determined that Jahmaul W. Johnson, 52, of Westfield, allegedly shot and wounded an adult female victim during an altercation in the residence.
Johnson fled the scene in a vehicle and led law enforcement on a pursuit that ended in the town of Pomfret. Johnson then fled on foot but was taken into custody shortly thereafter by members of the Chautauqua County Sheriff’s Office.
The female victim was transported to a hospital for treatment of injuries and is currently listed in stable condition with non-life-threatening injuries.
Johnson has been charged with first-degree attempted assault and was transported to the Centralized Arraignment Part (CAP) for arraignment.
This remains an active and ongoing investigation, and additional charges are expected. The Village of Westfield Police Department will provide further updates as the investigation continues.
