GOWANDA — Another veteran teacher is set to retire from the Gowanda Central School District after this year comes to a close. Wendy Greco has submitted her retirement resignation, effective June 30.

Greco, a Perrysburg resident, said in her letter of resignation, “Thank you for the opportunity to serve in the district for which I have been a community member for most of my life.”

Greco joins a list of retirees that includes Spanish Teacher Barbara Dempsey, Mathematics Teacher Beth Roblee, School Psychologist Terri Reeves, and Assistant Principal Dave Smith, who was recently selected as Assistant Principal of the Year by the School Administrators’ Association of New York State.

Two more employees of the district recently submitted retirement resignations: Cheryl Matern, Keyboard Specialist; and George Ries, Bus Driver and substitute School Monitor. Matern will finish out the school year before retiring, while Ries will retire effective April 15. Matern will also remain with the district as a substitute upon retirement.

The district also received a letter of resignation from Jacob Wilkins, Information Technology Specialist, for the purpose of accepting a position with Erie 1 BOCES. Wilkins said of his time at Gowanda, “I am thankful for the opportunities and experiences I have gained here, and I have truly enjoyed my tenure among such a great team.”

The role Wilkins vacated with his resignation was filled with the appointment of Anthony Puntillo, Jr., as Information Technology Specialist. His salary and benefits are collectively bargained, and his appointment carries a one-year probationary period.
