Hail damages buildings, cars in Gowanda
Heavy rain, golf-ball-sized hail, and widespread flooding affected parts of Western New York on Tuesday. In Gowanda, several residents and businesses were damaged by the hail. School was canceled because of the damage. The hail broke several windows in the Persia Town Hall and adjacent buildings on West Main Street. Residents had dozens of dents to their vehicles.
Other portions of Chautauqua County received more than an inch of rain over a 24-hour period, according to National Weather Service spotters. Those included: Silver Creek, 1.5 inches; Dunkirk Airport, 1.48; Fredonia, 1.38; Dunkirk, 1.17; Forestville, 0.97.
